Program

Film Screening “Escaping Libya's Detention Industry” (2025) | 39 min | English and Arabic with English Subtitles

Escaping Libya’s Detention Industry, a co-production between Lawyers for Justice in Libya (LFJL), Forensis & Forensic Architecture, Germany, brings together the testimonies of survivors, forensic research and innovative aesthetics to convey what European policies deliberately obscure: the systematic abuse of racialized humans, particularly those on the move, in Libyan detention.

Talk “Libya's Dentention Industry and Italy's Complicity: European Migration Deals as Crimes Against Humanity" | With David Yambo, Phoebe Walton, Allison West, and Julia Winkler | English

The Berlin premiere of the documentary Escaping Libya’s Detention Industry will be followed by a discussion on international crimes committed against migrants and refugees in Libya and the Mediterranean. It will address the role of European border-externalization deals – like the Italy-Libya Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – in furthering these crimes, and the urgent need for European accountability and policy change.

  • David Yambo (President and co-founder of Refugees in Libya)
  • Phoebe Walton (Researcher and spatial designer, Forensis)
  • Allison West (Senior Legal Advisor ECCHR)
  • Moderation: Julia Winkler (de:criminalize)
