UMAM D&R has a vast archival collection which consists of materials ranging from books, newspapers, leaflets, posters, videos and magazines to personal and official documents, narratives and interviews. All these records have been gathered with the intention of documenting Lebanon's civil wars and extensive portions of recent Lebanese social and cultural history.
Many of the materials have never been published and if they were not to appear in this archive would perish in a basement, attic or garbage dump, and their unique contribution to Lebanon's historical memory would perish with them. The materials that have been published are generally either one of a kind or impossible to obtain elsewhere.
Given the very serious nature of the losses to the archive incurred during the war of 2006, UMAM D&R is currently working on the digitalization of its collection, as it is the only way to fully protect it and allow access to it from a distance.
When a significant proportion of the archive has been digitalised, the records will be available on www.umam-dr.org . Until then, inquiries as to the existence and availability of specific documents can be directed to UMAM via email: info@umam-dr.org.
